I have used JSG and AP in my .45-70 and have had mixed results. I have followed their loading instructions carefully and I still get inconsistent results, namely groups that vary from 2" - 4" at 100 yards whereas I can get 1" or less using Accurate 5744 (a smokeless powder). 5744 was designed as a BP replacement powder for use in the large capacity BP cases. It is not position sensitive, you use 1/2 the powder (with the same velocity) and the recoil is mild in comparison to JSG, AP etc. Just my .02.
