Me too. I used to carry at more like 4 o'clock, but as I've gotten older, my range of motion has diminished. So now 3 o'clock is a better idea for me.

I also prefer leather. In part because I just like leather. And also, I prefer an IWB (inside the waistband) holster and have found that leather is more comfortable.
