If you don't already have one I would suggest a 9mm Glock. Other then the Glocks I like the CZ75 and the Beretta M9/92, and definitely a 357 Magnum if you don't already have one of those. The last pistol I bought was a .40 and I kind of regret it. I like that it has more stopping power and all that good stuff but I really wish I would have just stuck with the 9mms. I have also wanted a 1911 for a long time but every time I think about how much ammo is for it compared to the 9mm I just can't do it. I've decided that if I can't afford to practice with it then there's no point in getting it. You should just get whatever fits your hand the best in the biggest caliber that your hand and wallet are comfortable with. Good luck.
