Most of the problem with rifle cases sticking in dies is caused by them being tapered. Any time you force a tapered metal object into a tapered hole, it tends to seize up. That's what keeps the flywheel on your lawn mower engine tight. (The nut just holds it there).
The lube prevents that lock-up from happening.
