As far as deer hunting is concerned, the .270, .308, and .30-06 all perform about the same in terms of trajectory, recoil, and power. If you can't hit it and kill it with the __________ (pick one of the calibers), then you probably wouldn't have been able to hit it or kill it with the ________ or the __________ (pick the other two calibers), either.

Oh, I know what everyone will say. The .270 130 grain round won't drop as much at 400 yards as the 150 or 168 grain .308 round will. So if you can regularly competently kill deer that are 400 yards away, my compliments, and you might want to stick with the .270. Me? I can't make those 400 yard shots regardless of the what the heck I shoot. But I'll tell ya, the .30 caliber 150/168 grain round puts quite a wallop on a deer! Join the dark side, Luke, and buy the .308. Try the Remington Classic.

You're asking us for justification to buy a new rifle? Ha. Just buy it!! You know you want a new rifle, and that is reason enough. Tell the girlfriend that you are so in love with her that you had to buy a .308 -- now you can buy ammo together!
