If you want a shootable 38 Special you might as well have the best: the Model 14. These are the target models with great sights, nice wide triggers and overtravel stops. Even though the double action trigger is rarely used on these, both of mine came with very smooth trigger pulls. These were S&W's flagships at the time. I suspect they got a bit more hand fitting than a bulk order of police department Model 10s.
Needless to say they are very accurate.
