It was the .454 Casull version of the Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan. Smooth cylinder. I'm not sure the portrayal of the bullet damage was realistic, I think a point-blank shot in the forehead would have done more damage than was portrayed in a couple of cases.
Good movie, BTW, violent but not grotesquely so, and with a significant spiritual component emphasizing the grip of hate and the power of forgiveness.
