I have taken a couple of classes from LEOs on defensive shooting and if you are shooting two thumbs forward as is popular today, it is pretty easy to inadvertently drop the magazine with the heel of your left hand if you are right handed.
I also agree with this sentiment-and I'm not sure whether being left-handed would change the dynamics. In truth, I'd much rather have a magazine a little too hard to engage as opposed to one being a little too easy to activate.
