The Remington 48/Mohawk 48/ Sportsman 48 are as far as I know recoil operated the same as a Browning Auto 5 where the entire barrel recoils with the slide to retard the bolt until pressure drops. I believe the 58 just pre dates the 1100 shotgun and has a gas system like an 1100. I doubt an 1100 barrel will fit a 58 as they are different guns. Hope this helps, rc
