with modern self defense ammo I don't think it matters all that much. If we are talking fmj rounds then .45 acp all the way.

I think I would lean more towards 9mm over .45 for magazine capacity. Choosing 9mm over .40 as well simply because I can control follow up shots a little better than the snappy .40 cal.
