I have a Nikon Prostaff mounted on a Savage .270 WSM and it is a great scope. Clarity is top notch and it has held zero very well. I would not hesitate to purchase another Nikon if I needed one to fill a void.

I have the 3-9x40 which typically runs around $150, but the 4-12x40 runs around $200 I believe. They also make them with the BDC (bullet drop compensating) reticle. I have no experience with the BDC reticle, but I have not heard anything bad about it.
