MI as in "Michigan"... Sounds like you failed to adhere to the laws of the land (unregistered firearms) so you likely don't have a leg to stand on to get them back...
Draconian as the law may be, you have to play by their rules...

BTW, most states do not have such laws... I live, intentionally, in one of those...
