Type III anodize always seemed like a good idea to me ... it looks to me like your baffles were bead blasted prior to getting anodized ... even though any carbon buildup would get nuked by the pre-etch bath, the surface finish differences wouldn't have gone away with a typical type-III anodize ... it will be interesting to hear how it wears.
