Well, I think I fixed it....
apparently my computers battery is dead.... the date was set to January 1969... I just changed it to the correct date and now the thread opens normally.
Why that would matter, particularly on that thread, I do not know. Maybe it's just a coincidence and the date had nothing to do with it.
