This many replies and the closest mention of the venerable .30-30 is Jack's reference in mentioning the Federal Lite...

So for me it is simple...
For thick woody hunting...
.30-30 levergun or a shortish shotgun with slugs.

For open country longer shooting, gimme the ol' .30-06.
