So far nobody has said what the exact problem with the thumb safeties was. I spotted a Colt WW1 Replica in a local shop in the recalled range, and the thumb safety looked and worked perfectly normal. After notifying the dealer about the recall they sent it in and received it back in just a week, and the replacement part is identical to the old one. Colt does stamp a little "I" underneath the slide near the groove for the firing pin stop plate to indicate that the weapon has been serviced.
