Remington discontinued the 1100 G3 after a couple of years. From its description, it seems like a nice gun. I would appreciate opinions about this gun from those that have owned or shot it. Thanks.

while all that was going on, another forum member contacted me, said he was sorry i missed out on the broomhandle and offered one of his for sale. real nice guy and it turns out we had alot in common re gun collections. I'm quite a bit behind him for sheer numbers though. made a deal on this broomhandle, which is nicer than the first one i "bought"! anybody collect these?
I was wondering if anyone on here can tell me what is the Real value of the shotgun? I dont know where else to go or ask. Maybe someone can help or point me in the right direction. Below is a picture of the shotgun. He did not hunt with the shotgun, just used it for protection in the house. My Father bought the shotgun used, years ago.

I am going to be moving to either Fort Lee or Fort Eustis VA and am wanting to get a head start on shooting and hunting research. I don't know the season dates so I don't know if I'll be able to do that, but I would love to get some info on outdoor ranges, shooting clubs, etc. I would especially be interested in 300 yrd + ranges. And if it was on private land that would just be too cool for words. :)

If it matters, I currently shoot .30-06 and .40 S&W. Hoping to add a .243 to my collection before I get out there.

If you've got any websites or general info you can pass my way, I would appreciate it!!

I am looking to produce very accurate ammunition (may do 600 yard benchrest), and am uncertain on handling concentricity. I have read many posts here, and it appears some tools measure runout by locating the case base and the bullet tip (Forster?) and measuring runout near the shoulder, and others by rolling the case in V-blocks and measuring bullet runout (Sinclair). I have concerns with either, since any small dents in the case is going to provide erroneous readings. Maybe I am missing something here.

I do not mind spending the $$$ for more than one tool to best handle runout, but not sure what is best. I will be shooting 223 Remington, 308 Winchester, and 6mmBR.

I am not so sure about using tools to "fix" the problem after the fact. I am trying to prevent runout by using a Forster press and Redding dies. If I need to neck-turn, I am ok with that too.

I am getting set to start loading - got the press, scale, powder measure. But I don't have any dies. I have been looking on the forums and and reading catalogs trying to determine what I really need - I believe I will want a carbide sizing die so I don't have to lube the cases. I believe that is in most 3 die pistol sets - I know that Lee makes the factory crimp dies which I think is not included in the sets. I plan to start with 38 Super, but also will load if all goes as planned for 38 Special, 357 Mag, 10mm and 41 mag.

I see mixed opinions on Lee dies - with some negative posts.

What dies do I actually need - is the factory crimp die really a helpful/worthwhile die? I want to get good long lasting stuff that will work well and minimize the frustration that sometimes occurs when one tries a new venture.

Hey all, I need to barrow your brains for a bit:D
I cant remember who made it, or were I saw it, but I saw on line, a paddle holster that was a "low ride" holster and it put the grip of the weapon at or just below belt level. It also had the ability to tilt the grip slightly out word from the body. I thought this might fight my needs better than a thigh holster. I tend to do a lot of hunting and having a holster high on the hip tends to get in the was of many things, or it gets covered and hard to get to. If you all know what brand and have any info on it please let me know, or if you have any other suggetions that would be great to, thanks.

Thanks to all who responded to my earlier post asking about any issues with Sigs. I picked it up yesterday and test fired 50 rounds through it this morning. Absolutely love it.

But here's the question: when I first took it apart (field strip) to make sure it was clean and lubed at the factory, I noticed something about the outside of the barrel I've never experienced before. When I was wiping a little oil on it, it felt and sounded like, and I'm going to show my age here, but it sounded like wiping the surface of one of those old record albums with a cloth, you know, with those tiny, tiny groves. It's a very distinctive sound. It even felt like it too. By comparison, the barrel on my Glock is as smooth as glass.

Is this normal for Sigs? It shot perfectly fine this morning. In fact, my group was better than any with my Glock, but I have very small hands so that could be a factor there since the Sig fits me a lot better.

I'm getting back into reloading for my lil S&W after several years of shooting revolvers. In my ignorance, I bought some copper plated bullets. (Made by Xtreme) They are 115 grain round nose. Now, way back when, I found loading up some 147hp's to 800fps (per Accurate Arms manual), would cause the gun to jam by catching the spent case in the ejection port. Since purchasing the plated stuff I learned I shouldn't push them faster than a non-jacketed lead bullet or I will run into severe metal fouling problems. So would I be ok loading these up to say, 900fps, using data for a lead swc w/o boogering up the barrel? Also, has any ever used this brand of bullet and how'd you like them?

Archery question, draw weights

Archery hunting seems to becoming more popular. Archery hunting shows seem to be taking over the hunting TV channels. Many of these shows are now featuring children and women bow hunting deer and other even larger game. There are even commercials advertising womans camo hunting gear and certain bow makers are now making lines of bows exclusive for women.

My question is what is a minimum draw weight needed for deer and larger game? My bow is a 50 to 70 lb adjustable draw, it came set at 70 and I have never thought of lowering it . I know that most of these women and all of the children are not capable of drawing weights like that. I'm not sure what draw weights the women and kids are using but at least the magic of TV makes it seem like they are taking game.

This isn't really a question about women or children bow hunters but is there a minimum draw weight for hunting certain game animals? I always thought draw weights were like bullets, the heavier the better.I see arrows that barely penetrate game, some pass right thru the animal. Some compound bow hunters seem to struggle drawing the bow before let off and others draw the bow with what looks like little or no effort. The hunters are usually quick to advertise what bow they are using but NEVER say what draw weight they use. I'm now thinking most of the hunters have their bows set closer to the minimum draw weight than the maximum and perhaps the right way to learn to shoot and be accurate.

My bow came set at 70 lbs and I have never changed it. Maybe thats why I suck at shooting my bow. I had never thought about adjusting the draw weight down until watching some of these shows. What draw weights are you guys shooting at? What would be the lowest draw weight advisable for hunting deer and such? Thanks :)

Has anyone here ever witnessed a "Ka-Boom" (Glock or otherwise) first hand that involved factory ammo? I have seen a total of three in my whole life (one Glock, one Beretta, and one S&W revolver) and every time it involved hand loads. One of the guys it happened to swore it was not the ammos fault because it was factory ammo but it turned out he had bought reloads at the gunshow.

I have seen a few instances on the internet that actually seemed reputable, but they always seem to involve handloads too. Of course, since this is an internet forum, I am sure some of the eyewitness accounts we get posted here will all be perfectly reliable. :)

ok so heres the dilemma, currently ive got a p345 for a side arm while hunting and i find myself contantly shooting hogs at close range with it and it works fairly well at putting them down if they are smaller but the big ones tend to just turn and run to places that even waldo would be impossible to find in. ive shot the gp 100 with 38s in a 4" barrel and loved the gun, was extremely accurate, so im interested in the 6" version (i know 357 is kinda small for hogs though), then i find that ruger has got the blackhawk chambered in 45 long and wheels can be changed out to 45 acp, this would allow me to keep the 45 platform for fun and not have to go down a size in lead also. so heres the question, as far as accuracy goes between the two does anyone know if the blackhawk in 45 lc is as accurate as the gp100 is or maybe more given that the barrels are the same length.

now im a ruger fan and the majority of my guns are rugers and thats the main reason im looking at these two guns. i loved the gp100 but i think the 45lc blackhawk would suit my needs a little bit better but not if the accuracy is down compaired to the gp100. as of now ive gotten pretty good at hitting hogs between 0-20 yards with my p345 but the round just doesnt seem to be enough to stop them. any input would be wonderful from someone whose shot both.

My XD40 shoulder hoslter was very uncomfortable last time I wore it, must be from all that time at the gym:D.

Last night I decided to adjust the holster. The wife was out, I was home alone so I put on a firearm movie, Targets (gave me the heebie jeebies) and poured a nice glass of ice cold Crown.

Before I had a drop of alcohol I unloaded the firearm, double checked, then placed it in the holster so I get a good feel with it. I watched the movie and played with the holster and enjoyed the drink. I had a magazine in the firearm for proper weight distribution.

After the movie I went to put the firearm away. I reached to draw the weapon and instead of hiting the thumb break, I hit the mag release. The full magazine dropped square on my bare toes.:( Dang that smarts. Even an unloaded weapon is dangerous if you have a drink.:o

When my friend Mark Walters and I began collaborating on a book last year (Lessons from Armed America, from White Feather Press), we were extremely excited about the possibilities. We knew we had a winner of an idea and we believed we'd be able to pull it off. We couldn't wait to see what we produced together! But at the same time, I was a little shy of telling other people what I was up to. Truthfully, I was afraid to talk about it for fear that if I did, it wouldn't be "real." I was afraid of being embarrassed if our plans fell through, or if the book didn't work out for some other reason. So afraid of being embarrassed was I, in fact, that I didn't even tell my own mother that I was working on a book! "I'll mention it later," I rationalized, "once I know for sure that the book will become a reality." I extended this same reasoning to other family members and friends, figuring that there would be plenty of time to make such announcements when we had a formal contract from a publisher.

It wasn't long before we'd finished the writing and went looking for a publisher. We were extremely fortunate when Mark Walters met up with Skip Coryell, of White Feather Press. Skip took one look at Lessons from Armed America and said, "I'll publish it." He thought we had a winner. Excellent!

We even got a foreword from Massad Ayoob. And yes, asking him if he'd be willing to do that was extremely embarrassing -- and so was the praise he heaped on our work.

When Mark and I signed our contract with the publisher, we were both extremely excited. Mark immediately set out to tell the world, shouting it from the proverbial rooftops (I half suspect he shouted it from some literal rooftops as well; he's that kind of guy). But despite my excitement, I still found myself strangely embarrassed. "When the book is really in print," I thought, "then I will tell everyone about it." I rationalized that there was still lots of time, and that I didn't want to make any formal announcement until the book was actually available for purchase. So apart from a few close friends, nobody else in my life knew that I had a book in the works even after the contract was signed.

Of course, I hadn't realized that when I diffidently avoided telling people that I was working on a book, from fear of embarrassment, I was actually setting myself up for even more embarrassment down the road! That's because almost without exception, when I mentioned to a friend that my collaborator and I had just signed a book contract, the universal response was, "Really!? That's wonderful! How much time do you have to do the writing?" – and then I would have to explain that the book was already written, and that we'd been shopping for a publisher, and of course that little story was always followed by a hurt look when friends realized I hadn't shared any of my writing adventures with them.

But it got worse.

Now the book really is in print, but even though I'm holding it in my hands, it still doesn't seem real. And the embarrassment I hoped to avoid, by keeping quiet? It's become acute! That's because every time someone mentions Lessons from Armed America in my presence, they almost always follow up by throwing an accusing look at me while saying, "Of course, Kathy didn't tell me she was writing a book! I had to find out by ..." – followed, of course, by some long and involved story about exactly how they'd discovered my embarrassing little secret.

Awhile back, I kind of quietly changed my sig line in some of the forums where I participate, figuring that would function as an announcement. But I've been told that it doesn't count ... So as belated as it might be, here it is, my formal announcement: I've written a book with Mark Walters. I think it's a good book. It might even be a very good book. But if I can't overcome my embarrassed reluctance to tell people about it, nobody will ever buy it – and that would be a crying shame.

If you want to save me from myself, please pick up a copy of Lessons from Armed America today. If the book sells well, it won't be nearly so embarrassing.

Oh, and if you read the book and like it, please post a review on Amazon and on a gun board somewhere. Help spread the word...

Signed,

an embarrassed pax

I live in North Las Vegas and a few nights ago a police officer came home from his shift and went into his garage later that night to work on some things. Officer Nettleton cracked open a beer with the garage door opened and by the way he lived in a nice neighborhood. Three young men driving in a car saw an opportunity. They parked their vehicle and proceded to the officer's garage. As they confronted him shots were fired and while wounded the Metro officer shot one of the suspects in the groin area. The officer was mortally wounded and died on the scene. His wife and two children were inside the house at the time of the shooting. The suspects fled the scene and a neighbor heard all the shots and called police.

Also a coworker of mine had his car broken into by an armed assailant, which afterwards fled from all the noise. This brought to his attention that his Garage door remote was in that car and he left his door from inside the house to his garage open. That person would have been able to be in their house in less than 10 seconds.

There will be alot more gun owners after this week!
