This question excludes - selling it to put food on the table

I personally am very happy with all of my firearms, I usually spend a good deal of time debating on guns. Maybe I've just gotten lucky with my buys. But I can't see selling one to fund another purchase or because I got bored with it...

Encountered a problem today when I tried to assemble the Orion.
Last time out, two weeks ago for some Trap, the gun went together normally. Today, the fore end will not seat; the latch will not close. The forend seats normally on the unmounted barrels. The barrels mount normally and tight to the receiver. When, however, I attempt to mount the fore end to the assembled gun, there is a tiny gap where the wood meets a small boss on the breech end of the barrels. About 1/32" gap.
Any suggestions as to what the problem is are welcome.
The cuts can barely snag a fingernail and are not easy to see.
They are about 1/8" above the cannellure, parallel to it, straight and very short.

Would such tiny slices in this silver coating cause only very minor wear in steel bores after several hundred bullets?

Just to make sure I understand this correctly, double action Kellerman has two trigger reset points. The intermediate reset point has a heavier pull than the initial reset point.

So, can I get a trigger kit to make it just plain old DA/SA if I don't like the DAK setup?

My main reason for asking all this is that I'm waiting on my carry permit. As much as I like the size of the PF-9 I bought, I just can't seem to hit accurately with it. Yet I can smoke targets all day long with My GP100, Hi Power, and FNP-45.

I'm considering trading the Kel Tec in for a Sig P229 next time a batch of State Police trade ins comes in at one of the local shops. I'm not sure what flavor of trigger group comes in them, though.

I finally started to pull the trigger on a 1911. I have a .22lr in 1911 but no true 45. Also I have never used layaway or Buds before. so I guess I killed 3 birds with one stone.

I wanted a entry level 1911 in stainless. Did not really want to pull it out of savings but could swing about $200 a month in fun money so wanted to go the layaway route. Origanally was looking at the Springfield GI, but the local stores did not have any in stock (nor buds). Most people seem satisfied with Buds, and they offer 90 layaway.

Also they have the Remington R1 1911 Stainless for $618 (including insured shipping) and my local guy charges $25. So it looks like I am getting it for $643 OTD.

Not a ton of reviews out there on the R1, espically the stainless, but for the most part what I have seen has been positive for an entry 1911. The only thing I was really hesitate on was that it does not seem to be +p rated, but that was not a deal breaker. A few questions.

1) What can you tell me about the Remington R1 (espically stainless)?
2) Are most entry level 1911s +p rated?
3) Have you used Buds Layaway? How did it go?
4) What can I do to keep my mind off it till I get her out of Jail?

Thanks

Hey folks! Long time TFL visitor, finally decided to join and now I have something to post for once. My brother is left handed and has recently been looking into the AR platform. Just browsing he has found a Stag which appears to be a righty gun configured to left handed. The other option we've found is a RRA which appears to be specically made for leftys. So my question is... any one know about any other options? Price isn't much of an issue at this stage, just looking at options. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Compare his antlers to the other bucks. If his rack is already that large on May 6, what will it be when the season opens in mid October? I will have from mid October through January to get him. That is my shooting house you can see in the background of the picture. The distance from the shooting house to the deer is 75 yards. The bare spot on the right edge of the picture is a salt lick. A corn field begins right behind my shooting house.

A buddy of mine just got a Stag Arms Model 2 AR15 and we're about to start reloading his brass. The brass is factory Federal ammo that we've been blowing through shooting poppers and gongs. We'd like to develop a decent mid/long-range load (600 yds or so) but I'm a bit concerned about the 16" barrel with a 1:9 twist. We'll be shooting paper, steel and probably a few dozen woodchucks with the new rounds.

Also, I've been seeing references to primer crimps and the need to remove them from some .223 brass during case prep. Looking at the Federal brass, the primers look just like any others I've loaded in the past. Is this mainly with military surplus rounds or am I missing something? I just don't want to run into any surprises when we get started.

Anyone got a good starting recipe for the load? I've been looking at the 223CFE powder and heard some good reviews on it. Pros? Cons?

Has anyone else seen this issue. I will attempt to take a picture with a macro lens tomorrow and plan to call Ruger. I have only shot the gun offhand at some steel plates so I cannot comment yet on whether the accuracy is affected. Functionally the gun has been great and put about 500 rounds through 2 new BX25 mags without any issues, but this chatter thing is bugging me.

The rest were 2-3 inches. My question is this; do I now work by increments of 2 tenths or so on either side of the 61 mark? And if i can't get any better than that should I start messing with seating closer/farther from the lands? Or just try another powder?

Ok so I recently decided that I wanted to get the Henry big boy and the big question was, .44 mag or .45 LC.

This rifle will mainly be used for plinking but would consider it for going hunting one day and possibly HD if need be though it'll almost certainly won't be used for that. Also I do not getting jams at all if I have to at the range and I have heard about the .45 LC having problems due to its short rim but I have heard that modern rounds have taken that away and so have most modern claws. Also I would like to have a mid-sized recoil if possible (for my dad). So ya what do you recommend for a first lever action, please keep price into consideration also I might start reloading.

Dirty Harry came out at about the same era, and it caused quite a furor also. Charles Bronson died several years ago, but Clint Eastwood is still with us. Does anyone recall what revolver Bronson used? I think that it was a S&W .32 Long Colt, but I am not sure. I wonder if S&W still makes .32 revolvers? This movie was my first real awakening into the world of handguns.

Can you give me an idea of some of the loads that were being used in the period from 1770-1815 with the Charleville, Brown Bess and Springfield muskets?
ex. weight of musket ball and weight of powder charge.
Info on safe present day loads is helpful too.

There is nothing like a fun day on the range. After doing a little rifle shooting, we switched to a couple of handguns for some moving fun.

I got to shoot the new Ruger SR22, not but during the Run and Gun session. It is a nice gun, and shoots well. I wish I did use it during the Run and Gun session, as it is single action, no recoil, and has a nice grip. I did shoot better anyway using my Beretta Nano, but what a challenge that was. The long pull of the Nano trigger ... (LC9, etc.) ... whilst the gun is moving all about, while you are moving all about, and the skill it takes to keep the sights on target … a small target mind you … is a challenge! If I had used the SR22 I would have had a perfect score, and will do that the next time! Any single action, even a 1911 would be better for such shooting on such a target. If we had used qualifying silhouette targets instead, the Nano would have scored high.
If 100 rounds have been fired out of this rifle it would be alot.
It has been a safe queen and is in mint condition.
I started buying Weatherby Mark V rifles and forgot about the Savage 99.
I took it out once a year for a cleaning and oiling and check the bore with a bore scope.
Since I retired I decided to take it to the range.
The first couple of shots were fine, after it started to heat up it would not eject the empty shell casing.
I had to stick a cleaning rod down the barrel to knock out the fired casing.
The gun is clean, no pits rust etc.
I cleaned it good again and took it to the range again.
After 6 rounds it started not to remove the spend cartridge again.
Any advice.

I'm looking for an accurate 9mm auto for recreational range shooting at 25 yards. High priority given to a clean and light SA trigger break. The DA pull doesn't concern me as much. Concealability or light weight is not really an issue. I need to make a short list to find for test shooting, so help me out with your experiences. No SAO.

I was at the range last weekend with my .22s, a Ruger MkII and a K-frame S&W, as well as on old family relic Colt Police Positive Special in 32-20, which reminded me how much my enjoyment of shooting is affected by the trigger. The Colt is pretty clean but quite heavy, and even if the ammo wasn't crazy-expensive, I wouldn't want to shoot it that much. My favorite is definitely the Smith, because the trigger is nicer than the MkII (not that the Ruger is terrible). So, I know I'll be sorry if I get a 9mm that has a heavy or creepy SA pull.

I have had good results cleaning old and neglected firearms found at gun shows and pawn shops. This one has me at wit's end.

Remington 510 Targetmaster, .22 caliber, 1942 vintage. After cleaning, I found the walnut stock and all metal parts to be in very good original condition. The exception is an unknown crud deposit about 7 inches long measured from the muzzle. Grooves are filled and lands in this portion of the are barely visible. Hoppes #9, Kroil, and Lead Remover have been tried. The barrel was soaked overnight in each of these solutions, brushed with a phosphor bronze brush, and swabbed with patches. Black residue on the brush and patches. Tried to scrape the mystery fouling from the grooves nearest the muzzle with a steel probe but nothing was removed. So far the lands are becoming a bit more pronounced but the going is very slow.

Any educated or experienced guesses about what this fouling is and how it can be removed?

There were 5 pieces in the lot … 2 really nice sine bars that were definitely worth the 10 bucks I gave for the whole lot, 1 silly beat-up gage block that will end up being used as bar stock for something (unless it ends up being fully hard) and a pair of identical widgets that are a total mystery to me.

Does anyone recognize what they are from the attached photo? They are 4 inches long and 0.812”x 0.687” … the surfaces are finely ground and almost sharp on the long edges. There is also a through hole on one end (visible on the left, in the recessed area) and the only marking is the word CLAYTON ... also in a recessed area. These came covered in their original wax, so whatever they are, they are pristine.
Thanks in advance!
Rembrandt- if you read this could you please give me some details of the bases you used? I cant seem to find them on Warnes web site.

Hello, I was wondering if anyone on here could help me out on a gun I have recently found.

I've had a specialist view it and he said it was in fairly good condition, all original parts and a legit peice.

It's a colt revolver in the origional wooden box.

Its an 1851 model with the London address on the top, it also has 'JFB' engraved onto the handle. I've researched my family tree but there's no one with those initials.

Serial numbers 1622 so I believe it was made in 1855?

Unfortunately as I'm posting on my phone I cannot upload photos.

A dealer thinks its a special order gun, it's got the 7 and a half inch barrell and English proofs on the chamber. There's a kind of floral engraving over parts of the gun but no scene on the barrell.

A dealer also believes it was used in the Crimean war

It also has colts patent engraved on the left hand side of the gun.

I've spoken to a few dealers and there valuations are from £500 - £4000

Could anyone help me out please?
