I have a P229 that I bought as a beater. It is a police trade in and has less than 50% of the original finish on the stainless slide. The frame has two small nicks but otherwise the anodizing is fine. I was just going to leave it "as is" but I set of extra nice Houge kingwood grips came home with me from the gunshow this weekend and now the gun is a real looker except for the slide. Help me debate the options.

1. Glass bead the slide to a matte stainless finish. $35.00

2. Return to SIG for refinish. (not very durable)

3. Hardchrome matte

4. Robar NP3

5. Brownells paint

6. anyother ideas????

I'd do option 1, if possible.

I'd consider hard chroming the slide. It will be more scratch resistant and smoother than stainless. I hard chromed a Kahr Mk9 and am very pleased with the result.

I'd probably go for the matte hardchrome.

You might also consider a ceramic coating. This new diamondblack coating is getting rave reviews. To get more info go to www.diamondblack.com You can also look over in the www.1911forum.com/forums or at www.pistolsmith.com/index.php (Finishes) for more info on this product. Good luck with whatever finish you decide on.

Start by bead-blasting, and IF you don't like it think 'Robar NP3'.

Hard chrome! $50 bucks and you'll never have to refinish or touch-up again.

Glass-bead the slide and be a happy camper.

For $35 you have a new-looking pistol...and touch-ups on stainless are legendarily simple.

Congrats on a great buy...the P229 is, IMNSHO, the best out-of-the-box combat pistol in the world.

Shooter .45,

I got my slide done by Tripp Research (first) and my frame done by Metalife (a few months later). Tripp won't do an aluminum frame, Metalife will. There are prices listed on their sites.
