View Full Version : Synthetic Stock DUMB Question
December 27, 2001, 03:41 PM
I am considering getting a new hunting rifle with a synthetic stock. (possibly a Sako or Tikka or Browning A-Bolt) I like a 13" length of pull. Is it possible to have a gunsmith shorten the LOP on a sythetic stock???

should be, it may be that a pice will need to be fit inside, as most are hollow.

What you will need is a new recoil pad and spacer. The pads are usually glued on, so you'd have to rip the old one off, have the end of the stock ground back, then glue the new recoil pad and spacer back on the end of the stock. Then the contour of the pad would need to be ground to match the stock. Check Brownells and see if the have a kit for that type of stock. Most synthetics ARE hollow at the butt, but doesn't really matter much, no need to fill. Guess you could if you wanted, I don't usually, unless I'm installing a recoil reducer.

just make sure the drop in the stock isn't screwy for ya if you cut the stock back, have the gunsmith help ya out, you'll be ok..
