View Full Version : Removing poly finish?

I have a Savage Model 99F that has beautiful wood covered by aging, cracking polyeurathane. I have the wood removed and am ready to strip the finish. Will laquer thinner disolve the polyeurathane, or do I need something stronger?

Noban, polyurethane will come off with any "paint remover." The old methylene chloride-based ones work best. The new environmentally friendly ones take longer. Get the polluting kind, you wont regret it.
Then check out http://www.arizonaresponsesystems.com/ and click on "NOTES". Follow the "Gunplumbers guide to wood stock restoration" link. The slurry sanding method works great...
