View Full Version : Smith to remove portion of Ruger MkII barrel?

I've seen this done on a SW41, but I don't know about a Ruger. I have the target competition model with the long slabside barrel. I've decided that it's too muzzle-heavy (I'm at the point where I'm shooting my .45 bullseye better), so I'd like to take off between 1 and 2 inches, crown it correctly, and replace the sight.
Is this common? Cost?

Maybe not so much with the Ruger but I shorten handgun barrels quite often. In my shop it would be $40.00 to cut and crown and $25 to reinstall the front sight. George

Have you looked into replacing the barrel with one more to your taste ? Think barrels around 40 bucks.
Plus install and dial in of course. Might ask Ruger.

I don't think I want a different barrel because this one's very accurate and installed well...plus, the slabsides are nice.
I'll ask the local smith when I take in my 1911.
