View Full Version : Need help with M-1 Carbine stock!

Hello. I was wondering if someone had any suggestions or experiences with how to fix a broken barrel band retaining clip on a Carbine?
I have a USGI Inland. I gave it a good cleaning after a trip to the range, and while trying to slip the barrel band back over the clip in the stock......... ...SPROING! The clip broke and went flying across the room.:( It is broken off flush with the wood, so I can't get ahold of it to try and remove what's left of the clip.
Can it be replaced, or will I have to look for a replacement stock?
Thanks for any and all help!

It can be replaced. New springs can be found at Gun Parts Corp, among others.
To remove the broken one, look on the other side of the stock. The hole for the spring goes all the way through. It may be covered with dirt/finish. Probe around with a small punch to find it. Just punch it out with the small punch.

Thanks! I'll look around some more on the inside of the stock. It must be covered with dirt or finish because I don't see any holes, or the metal protruding anywhere.

It's not on the inside of the stock. Look at the spring on the right side of the stock. Notice the rear part of the spring that enters the stock. Turn the stock over and look at the left side of the stock opposite the spring. There should be a tiny hole in the stock. The portion of the spring that goes into the stock doesn't protrude all the way through, so you won't see any metal, just a tiny hole.
