Who's up for a quick pre or post Christmast shoot at the NRA Range in Fairfax?

What works for you?

Mike in VA
December 5, 2001, 04:54 PM
I'm up for it, schedule's open, but I've got this brace on my leg & can't drive. I'd trade a couple boxes of .45 or 9mm for a ride from Falls Chuch/Tysons area by 66 ;), schedule permitting.

I'm ready, let's do it. Most any evening is ok for me.

December 5, 2001, 07:39 PM
Ditto here.

Mike-in-VA: are you off the Nutley St exit, or closer to Leesburg Pike?

David Park
December 5, 2001, 07:52 PM
Sounds good to me. I need to finish sighting in my FAL.

Wow, I was gonna post here and say I wanted to go, but then I checked the fees. Good gracious, is that the normal fee schedule for most ranges (haven't been to a 'professional' range yet, I always have a place to shoot here in the country)?

Too rich for my blood. Can't mess with money, can ya?...;) :D

Those prices look in line for a good in door range.

I might show up just to meet a few of you guys. And the NRA's range is REALLY nice.

NoVAlooker
December 6, 2001, 03:52 PM
Sounds good, tell me when. I usually head down a couple of times a week anyway.

Yes, those are normal indoor range prices (its actually pretty cheap if you pay the $200 and join for a year)

Mike, I can pick probably pick you up at West Falls Church - its near my house and on the way.

let me know

Dave Park - A FAL. Sounds fun. If I bring ammo, can I shoot a couple of rounds?

Where you there last Friday ( I believe it was the 30th?) in the am setting it up? If so, I probably spoke to you about it a bit.

David Park
December 7, 2001, 06:51 PM
NoVAlooker, I haven't been to the NRA range since the last TFL meet, but you're welcome to try out the FAL.

yanky, the prices are average, and last time it was crowded so we only shot for one hour. If you've never been to the range before, show up early so you can take the range test.

Hey!!! Sometime next year why don't "youse guys" hold a shoot on a Saturday or Sunday so some of us from up north can show up.

I have been looking for and excuse to visit the museum and a range session with TFL'ers would be the perfect compliment.

Might even drag Soda Pop, Dead and even Dinosaur with me. :D

OK. Is someone gonna set a date?

If we do it prior to Christmas, a weeknight probably works best for me (don't need prior permission from the wife)

Dave Park - Thanks. I look forward to testing it out:cool:

K80Geoff - where are you located? I grew up in Northern Jersey, but have lots of family all over the Metro NY area.

A date means a lot. I've got sometime off from work and would like the see the city again before they close it all to us citizens. Wouldn't mind making it a couple of day(s) trip out of it. I'll keep an eye on this over the next couple of days to see what comes around.

Name a day! I'm better for weekends, nights except for Wednesday. Sounds like a good deal.

Mike in VA
December 8, 2001, 05:40 PM
OK, here's a shot at a date. Lets put a stake in the ground. (I'm house-bound and unemployed, anything works for me). Let's avoid Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays, so -

State your preferences (Maye we need two dates?):
Thursday 12/13 7:30 PM

Saturday 12/15 3:00 PM

Tuesday 12/18 7:30 PM

Thursday 12/20 7:30 PM

Saturday 12/21 3:00 PM

We have followed range time with a light repast at Ruby Tuesdays or some similar establilshment close by for those whose schedule allows. It's always a pleasure to put faces with 'names', sooking forward to seeing everyone,

I'm for a week day shoot. Remember how busy it was last time? I believe we were asked to leave after an hour since there was a waiting line. Any first time shooters at the NRA Range must take their short written exam too.

December 8, 2001, 11:52 PM
12/13 or 12/20 are probably best for me.

I had indicated here that 12/18 would work, but it looks like I'll be out of town on business. :barf:

Ah, another shoot fest! I'm game.

Thursday the 20th, or the following Saturday probably work best for me.

This week, however, is booked solid.

12/20 is good for me. Any later and we get into Christmas travel time.

NoVAlooker
December 10, 2001, 02:19 PM
Looks like the 20th works the best.

Anyone know if we can reserve a few of the lanes at the range for a group?

Roger C
December 10, 2001, 02:43 PM
I'll be there Friday night. My final exams are Wed & Thu, and I'll be overdue to let off some frustration.

December 10, 2001, 03:51 PM
12/ 20 works for me.

Mike

Mike Irwin
December 10, 2001, 06:28 PM
Crap. Of all the days, I don't think 12/20 works for me.

Let me see if I can juggle my schedule to make it.

NoVAlooker
December 10, 2001, 06:32 PM
Well, since it was your idea, I guess we should give you the option of suggesting another time . . . . .

Or, we could just have two different shoots (I did just receive a couple of thousand rounds from Natchezss the other day):p

Mike Irwin
December 11, 2001, 04:48 PM
Nah, I can readjust my schedule.

20th works for me!

Let's shoot!

Mal H
December 11, 2001, 05:47 PM
Mike - Would you call the range tomorrow and be sure SFI doesn't have a class on the 20th? If they do, it will cut down on the available positions by half = not good.

(Yes, I know I could call, but you see I'm a cheapskate - it's long distance for me. :) )

December 12, 2001, 09:55 AM
I'm in! I need a day off anyway. What time will folks be showing up?

Mike Irwin
December 12, 2001, 01:02 PM
I'm beginning to think that no one actually works at the NRA Range, as I seldom get anyone to answer the *$#)(^&#$)( phone.

Mike Irwin
December 12, 2001, 01:17 PM
Ok,

Good call, Mal.

There IS an SFI class on Dec. 20.

I'm trying to find out at what time, but no one has returned my call yet.

Given how efficient they are at the range, I don't expect anyone will, either.

We may have to postpone this until after the Holidays, or move it to the next day, Friday Dec. 21.

I'll let you all know when I find something out.

I missed the last shoot at the NRA. Do they do group reservations, or is it a 'first come first served' thing?

Mal H
December 12, 2001, 04:44 PM
Now you know why I don't like to call them long distance (you probably already knew). I can spend enough $$ to buy a box of ammo just twiddling my fingers while on hold/ignore.

Mike Irwin
December 12, 2001, 05:31 PM
OK, let's move the time up to 8:30 on December 20.

SFI firing goes from 3 to 8 p.m.

I figure by 8:30 hopefully they'll be off the lanes, and we can shoot.

Hopefully we can shoot.

NoVAlooker
December 12, 2001, 06:17 PM
Sounds good.

Hopefully my new AK 47 will have arrived by then:cool:

T-Rex
December 13, 2001, 03:28 PM
I'll be there. I've got a stack of Bin Ladin targets that are sized just right for that range too.

Mike in VA
December 14, 2001, 10:44 AM
Thursday it is.

Ammo shipment from Natchez just arrived (Merry Christmas to me:cool: ))

Saw Dr yesterday, he's satisfied with progess, I start physical therapy Tuesday, based on that evaluation, I may even be able to drive [safely] by Thursday.

The trend is up>

I may have a problem.

I think I've torn the rotator cuff in my right arm. I'm going to try to get a doctor's appointment, but it's tough for me to do much of anything right now that involves motion of the arm above the waist.

I don't even want to think about trying to shoot with it right now.

I'll make it if I can, gents. If I can't shoot, I'll at least come to hobnob, and perhaps have dinner at Ruby Tuesday's afterwards.

12-20 is a go for me.

Mike in VA
December 19, 2001, 05:41 PM
Dang me, gotta conflict, looks like I can't make it. Rats:o

BTW, Thanks to youse guys for the ride offers. I started PT yesterday, still can't bend the knee too far, but I maybe able to push a clutch pedal in another week-10 days:cool:

I'm a go.

December 20, 2001, 11:21 AM
I'm going. I thought that was clear.

A friend of mine who doesn't post here is going.

Mr. James was intending to come, I need to check in with him.

December 20, 2001, 12:50 PM
me too.

NoVAlooker
December 20, 2001, 04:23 PM
Well, I thought I was going, but Im not sure now. My travel plans were messed up yesterday and instead of returning to DC at noon, I didn't get back till after 8. So, While I am desperatly trying to play catch up here at the office, I am unsure If I will be getting out in time to make it. I may show up "fashionably" late though

Mal H
December 20, 2001, 05:45 PM
See you there. I'm going monocaliber tonight - all .45 Colt. Well maybe a mousey caliber also.

If anyone wants to request a specific caliber for a tryout, this is the time to do it. Between Mykl and Michael, they have most of 'em covered!

Hope everyone had a good time.

Hope everyone had a good time last nite

The real question here is, who was the Marksman (ie, gets a title for paying the fee), and who's the High Master?:D

.
January 2, 2002, 07:01 PM
Well, I obviously tubed that one. My only defense is that when employed, someone inevitably expects one to work...
