Need a source for small quantities of various steel suitable for fabricating gun parts.

Also need a few scrap aluminum blocks approx 3" X 4" X 1 1/2" or 3" X 4" X 2". Larger will work also.

Any help will be appreaciated.

Try www.metalmart.com They might have the particular alloy and size you're looking for.

You might try a search for Jorgensen Steel or Earl M. Jorgensen CO.

They have warehouses and plants all over the country and generaly a great selection of common and specialty steels and aluminums. With or without certs.

when you get past all that technical talk, guns usually start out as 4140 or 4130 mild steel. It is very common steel. As for the aluminum I wouldn't use anything but 7075 T6. Go to your local metal supplier and ask about small pcs like you described. You would be surprised how cheap it is.

I live out in the middle of nowhere. If there was a local metal supplier anywhere close, I wouldn't have asked for a source from here. I need a mail order source.

I just bought a 3 foot length of 1 inch diameter 4140 from McMaster-Carr for less than $20 delivered. They'll sell you almost anything from micrometers to outdoor sheds to respirators to raw materials. I live in an area where I do have alternatives and their prices seem reasonable ... not cheap ... but reasonable ... and if I lived in the middle of nowhere they'd look a lot like a bargain.

Oh ... www.mcmaster.com (http://www.mcmaster.com) is the address.

Good luck,

check out Jorgensen, Crucible, Carpenter, Fry steel company. A lot of these guys only sell in bulk but I'd be they will at least give you the skinny on where to buy what you'd need in small quantities in your region.
