Does anyone know of a company that has a way of mounting a scope on a Rem model 241 Speedmaster, without drilling and tapping? I would really appreciate any help you guys could give me. Fatelvis

Hello Fatelvis,

Try a Lipski/South Shore Barrel band and sight base, Brownells carry them in various sizes example item number 527-100-750.

Howdy Fatelvis,

Search for a mount that attaches to the barrel and cantilevers back over the receiver (maybe the one UK2TX mentioned works this way). Please don't drill and tap the receiver of your fine old Remington. I inherited a model 241 when I was 13 years old and made the mistake of having it drilled and tapped. I found that I could, and still can, shoot this rifle better with the iron sights than with the scope. This is undoubtedly due to the take-down nature of the rifle and the resulting slight play between barrel and receiver. I often look with regret at those three holes in the top of my rifle and wish I had paid attention to my dad all those years ago when he wisely advised against having holes drilled in the receiver.hth-TR

Hello FatElvis & TangoRomeo,

The item I suggested would allow you to retain the normal comfiguration of the rifle and should alow the scoped rifle to be as accurate with the iron sights.

The only short coming I can see is that if you don't use an extended scope base you would have to use a EER scout type scope.

I found the barrel band, but do I have to make my own cantilever style base? Do either of you guys know if they sell one that would work? Thanks again guys.
