View Full Version : N.J. informal pistol & shotgun shoot..........

Come one, come all to an informal "Thanksgiving Day weekend" get together of TFL members on Sunday, November 25th starting at 11:00 until the sun sets. The shoot will take place at the Buckeye Gun Club in Barnegat, N.J, 10 miles outside of Longbeach Island. Facilities are provided at the club house. You must bring any food or beverages you wish to consume during the day. Bring your own targets and ammo. We will be patterning shotguns, as a lot of people are asking for this, and we will be doing some informal pistol shooting. The range will be exclusively for TFL members and anyone else that is accompanied by such so this is a great time to meet the people behind the log on names that we interact with. No magazines that hold over 15 rounds are aloud in the State. When transporting firearms they must be in a locked container and in the trunk or as far away from you having easy access to them(for pick-ups behind the seat if possible). Ammo is to be in a seperate container and locked also. For directions to the club PM me and I will PM you back with them. Please only bring pistols, shotguns, or black powder rifles. The range can handle up to five people at a time and you can shoot at the 50yd line or the 100yd line but not both at the same time. The cost to each person is NOTHING! All that the club asks for is a donation for using the facilities. If it is supposed to rain that day we will change the date since it is an outside uncovered range. Thanks, and I hope to see a lot of you there! : I think I've covered all the bases!:)
Check the N.R.A's web site to make sure what you are bringing is legal in this state:rolleyes:

This is a great idea! Alas, I have just sent my 870 barrel away for a bit of back-boring. This is the one that I will need to pattern but I do not think I'll have it back in time. ):
I will be ready for the next winter shoot though!
Have fun gang.

I'm going to research those Gun Laws in NJ. I have to look for something to lock up my guns. I don't have anything as fancy as K80Geoff does. Does it actually have to be LOCKED or just in a closed container. I drive a Mini van and don't have a trunk. Do they sell ammo there?
RAY WOODROW 3RD
November 16, 2001, 12:02 PM
SodaPop,
They don't sell ammo or targets. Bring your own food or there are stores close enough to order pizza, sanwhiches etc. Under N.J. laws they must be locked up and not within easy access to you which means all the way in the back of your mini-van. Look it up at the N.R.A's web site and it will clearly spell out the transportation and storage of firearms under "possesion" while going to and from the range. Any questions feel free to ask.:)

Whats the exact address of the range? I can't find it on Map Quest?
K80Geoff
November 16, 2001, 08:06 PM
Ok I have the roll of brown paper already in my SUV so I can't forget it this time. Bring you Shotguns or use one of My 870's
What kind of target frames does the range have?
Trying to figure how to set up a 3' by 3' piece of paper to shoot patterns.

SodaPop, K80Geoff,
HaHaHa! You'll never find it! Just kidding. The offical address of the club is 501 Rt.72E, Barnegat N.J. The closest point of reference to the club for you SodaPop is the intersection of Rt.539 & Rt.72E. That intersection is the first traffic light on Rt.72E from the Lebanon State Forest Circle were Rt.70 & Rt.72E meet. Staying on Rt.72E go through the light and count 16 telephone poles on the right hand side. At the 16th telephone pole(I believe it's mile marker 14/5)turn right into the driveway. Welcome to the Buckeye Gun Club. What direction or road can you easily access? Rt.38 or Rt.73?
For K80Geoff, if you are comming from the shore area(Garden State Parkway)take the Manahawkin exit onto Rt.9. Rt.9 will run right into Rt.72W. If you go out of Manahawkin before finding Rt.72W turn around. When you are on Rt.72W stay on the road until you hit the intersection of Rt.532 & Rt.72W. Stay on 72 and keep looking to your left. You will pass a Mansion on your left with a cement wall. After the mansion there will be reflectors on a telephone pole, 2 or 3, that is where you will make a left. If you make it to the light you went too far. Turn around and look for the 14/5 mile marker and make a right into the driveway. The impact area is 16'x4' of compressed particle board on a wooden frame. Behind the frame is 4' pieces of telephone poles stacked 7' high with the soft side facing the shooter. Behind the poles are a 6'deep hill of dirt compacted into the poles so you will have no problem puting up your 3'x3' piece of paper for patterning. Any other questions? Feel free to ask. :)

I thought the invite specified pistols and shotguns. What is all this talk about rifles of any type? Ray, please straighten us out on this. Is the shotguns patterning only or is there traps?

All I requested is an informal shoot for pistols/shotguns. I do not wish to have rifles at this time at the range. We will probably do something to that extent the next get together. We will be patterning shotguns, shooting pistols, and geting to know your fellow enthusiast. I have a skeet machine that we will hook up to shoot after we pattern on K80Geoff's paper. Can anybody else bring clay pigeons? Any other questions feel free to ask. Are you coming DEAD or are you still out?

Dead,
I just reread my last post and thought it sounded a little too strong. No offence meant or intended. I didn't want to be the guy who showed up at a gun fight with a knife (or a rifle shoot with a pistol as the case may be). If you are strictly a rifle shooter and want to come, let me know and it would be my pleasure to bring a pistol for you. Quantrill

OK you guys. I have a box of clay pigeons that needs to be broken.
How about slugs or Buckshot?

Yes on the slugs and buckshot. I'm gonna bring a box of clays also. Rovert, can you get some bird shot since this trip you'll be without firearms?

November 20, 2001, 07:24 PM
Can we shoot other targets? I have a pile of AOL CD's I have been itching to blast but have not had the opportunity. I would clean up the mess afterwards of course:D
Soda Pop, don't forget to bring some of those large cardboard box covers!

Depending on whether you want to keep this a TFL event or not, you might get some nibbles from NJGunClub on Yahoo (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NJGunClub .)
Prolly won't be able to make it this time, but I hope you guys have a lot of fun!

Okay....this is wierd....I do most of my TFL browsing at work (shame on me, I know!), but I didn't get any PM alerts till I logged in at home...even though they are both logged in, same OS, same version of browser. Wierd...
This is a great idea, getting the NJ TFL'ers together. Unfortunately, I can't make it this time. I'm spending my weekend up in Lancaster with my Godparents. Haven't seen them in a long while, was planning it for months. Next time I'll try to move heck and earth to make it, though.
I'd only ask that someone be so kind to provide an after-action report....I think a nice synopsis of all the fun will be an extra kick for us to make sure to be at the next one!!

Ray, my schedule's changed and I'll be there. Please let me know where/when it is and also what you'll need from me in the way of ammo.
Also, if anyone who's coming owns any of the .45 Glocks (21, 30, or 36), I've been trying to try one out, without luck. Would appreciate it if you could bring it along!

pdmoderator & others,
I posted in an earlier thread where the club is located. Check it out and see if you understand the directions. I am bringing down my two 12 gauges that take 2 3/4 inch shells. If you want you can pick up some skeet shot shells. If you want you can pick up a box of clays. In pistols, I will bring down:
my 9mm Beretta, 9mm S&W 3913, my S&W model 10 .38 revolver, my Colt Trooper Mark V in .357 mag., my S&W model 22a semi-automatic .22, my S&W model 18 revolver .22, my Rossi .44 special revolver, My Beretta minx .22 short semi-automatic.
I have a hard time finding .44 special so if you can aquire some of that it would be appriciated. Anything else is up to you so you choose what you want to bring and what you don't. Bring down what you want to eat and drink since there is nothing to buy there, or I figured we would order some food and drink once we all got there. Any other questions feel free to ask. Looking forward to meeting you! :D
Are you bringing somebody? confused: Rovert is.
RAY WOODROW 3RD
November 23, 2001, 08:56 PM
Also, since there is no range fee, donations to the club for range and facility use will be appriciated. Looks like we are going to have a good group of TFLers.

Ray, FYI, I just picked up 5 boxes of Winchester 12ga 1oz #8 lead shot tonight, so that gives us 125 rounds to shoot at the 2 cases of pigeons I have to go with it. :D
Let us know about the weather, and if we're going to reschedule.

We all had a great time and the weather cooperated. We had a total of 6 TFLers show up and 4 regular gun club members and I know for a fact that the day couldn't have been nicer. Rovert has the digital camera pictures that he will post and I have the regular pictures that I will try to get scaned onto this sight. To all other TFLers out there that didn't come, you missed a really great time to meet fellow TFLers! We all worked together and the whole thing went off without a hitch. It was just too bad that we ran out of time and day light. It was an honor to shoot with such safety minded individuals on such an unregulated range. I don't think I saw one major violation the whole day! I look forward to shooting with all of the TFLers who showed up today again. I think we all have to work on our skeet shooting abilities though!:D

Ray, I also had a great time, and look forward to the next meeting when we can shoot some guns, and shoot the breeze.
As to skeet marksmanship, I'm 100%... all mine broke when they hit the ground. Speaking just for myself, I think I'd have hit more pigeons with a boomerang. :D

Great time Ray!!! Thanks to you and the club members. Great place to shoot!
The fireplace was the perfect ending :D

That is a Great place for Pistol Shooting! I have to get my front sight filed down or rob a bank and get sights put on my .45. I didn't shoot very well but I had fun busting Clays with my Ruger Single Six. I could have shot for 4 more hours.
Do you guys want to have a Bolt Action Rifle Gathering or just just a plane old Rifle Shoot next? Maybe in Mid-January we can get together?

Its $15 for non members like you guys :)
Geoff when are you going to become a member at W&W?
I'm all for a Bolt action/ Lever Action Fest. I only have a Marlin 22Mag and a Model 70 but I could have fun all day with them.
Well we could make it in early January if everyone wants to have it sooner?
K80Geoff
November 29, 2001, 06:23 PM
Next time I go up I will probably join. Trying to decide if the combo membership is worth it or just go for Rifle. If I do join I will have to make it there at least once a month:D
Now all I have to do is find a , er , friend who lives nearby like Dead:D
January is OK, bring your woolies!

Hi, all,
Since we have all these NJ folks in one virtual place... what's the best deal you've found on practice ammo within the Garden Apartment State?
I'm looking for decent 9mm and .45 ACP FMJ factory ammo, and am willing to buy in bulk to save money and avoid bother.
Thanks,

The way I read that is that he does not SHIP to NJ I thought one could pick-up at the warehouse and call ahead. He lists 2 addresses, 1 in Mt.Laurel and 1 in West Berlin. As I said, I never tried him but it would be interesting to order and then pick-up at the warehouse. Quantrill
