View Full Version : Help with my new mossberg

I picked up a "used" mossberg 500A though it doesn't look fired and there is still factory grease all over it. Further, the wood dowel in the mag was still there. However, this is supposed to be a 8 round magazine and I can only fit 7 rounds (2 3/4) in it.

Any idea why that may be? This is my first shotgun so I do not yet have any idea how to solve any of its problems and not even how to speak inteligently about them.

The picture attached is not of the actual gun but an exact copy.

Thanx all

The wooden dowel is the hunting plug to restrict you to 2 rounds in the mag and one in the chamber. They supply it because it is a shotgun and may one day be used for hunting. Your mossberg is an 8 round capacity gun so that means 7 in the magazine and one in the chamber.

hope that helps.

Ahh! so unlike handguns the magazine capacity includes the chambered round? Now I get it.

I have the exact same shotgun but a pistol-grip full stock on it. Sweet gun, you made a good choice.
