I have again been asked to find out what is making a rattling noise inside a Remington 870 synthetic stock.
It was, as usual, a small spring washer sliding up and down the stock bolt.
If this was mis-assembled at the factory, the same idiot has been doing this for years. This is the umpteenth time I've had to fix this problem.

What gives????

This can't be improperly assembled, since they are ALL this way.
The washer serves no purpose other than possible keeping the bearing washer and lock washer from sliding off during assemble.
If so, why does Remington use a design that starts rattling around.

Any ideas?
