Hi guys, I have a Marlin XL7 30-06 and I'm seeking a scope for it. I am looking for the best target turret style scope under 200$. I prefer a 4-16x40, but I will consider other powers. Suggestions are appreciated, thanks.

There are a lot of good 3-9X40's priced right at $200. Getting turrets and more magnification costs more money. To get those features @ $200 will result in a lower quality scope than I'd recommend. A decent scope with those features will start at around $300-$350. I'd rather have more quality than more magnification. Most of the time a better quality scope will be clearer and sharper at long range even though it has less magnification.
Priced right at $200 and with a long range reticle (which I prefer over turrets) are the Burris FF-II

The Redfield Revolution.

And the Nikon Buckmaster

Of those I like the Burris the best. It is over your budget but this is my personal preference on my 30-06. I zero at 100 yards and use the dots as aiming points at longer range.

Finding a decent 3-9x or 2-10x hunting scope (http://www.natchezss.com/product.cfm?contentID=productDetail&brand=WE&prodID=WE849403) is easy but you're not going to find decent a 4-16x target scope for $200. You might find some cheap disposable Chinese piece of junk, but not a decent target scope.

Look no further, Nikon Prostaff 4x12x40mm! $200. I got two of them. Way brighter than ANY Leupold or Burris I ever owned. Comparable to their Monarch line for less than half the price.

Comparing the best scope with the features you're looking at for under $200.00 is like saying which car is better, a Yugo or a Pinto. There is no answer that is viable. If you want a scope with big knobs with numbers on it that will look all Tommy Taktikewl then waste your money on a BSA, NC Star or other junk like that.
If you want to spend $200 on a 3X9X40 standard duplex then Redfield, Weaver, Nikon, Bushnell and others all make decent offerings that are all very similar, throw the names in a hat and pick one.

Check out the reviews on the Bushnell Tactical Elite 3200 10x40. I purchased one from Midway for around $209. I placed it on my daughter's Savage Model 12 .22-250 and am very pleased with it. I have another one on the way and its going on my .308 5R to include a new set of rings and base.
