I already have lots of ARs and other rifles, but I saw one at a local GS, and was wondering if it was worth $1990.00. Comes with three mags and a red dot mounted on it.

I might add that the shop in question had one of the area's best supplies of ARs, etc., but has of course sold out of everything, but I went in a few days ago and this rifle was the only one of that type on their wall. I went in the next day and it was still there. It might not be there now, but I'm curious as to why it was hanging there all by its lonesome so long after everything else was long gone.

I would get it if I were you. It's one of the finest rifles ever built just not very well known here in the states. It's a Modernized Swiss remake (talking about the action) of an AK-47 style rifle. :D

$2K is a bit high but compared to how much AR's have jumped since the start of this insanity it is NOTHING. Buy it buy it buy it...why are you still reading this and not buying it?

The SIG-551 series of rifles is just downright sweet.
I own a SIG-556, basically the same upper but a lower that takes standard AR-15 type magazines and I couldn't be happeir. The only issue you may run into with the 551 is the cost of magazines, but for that trade off you get a seriously awesome rifle.

Like I said above...why are you still reading this post..you should be out buying that rifle right now...like NOW

Make sure you can get some magazines for it from the dealer as they are not that common and impossible to find right now. I just read that Biden's task force is going to recommend some sort of high capacity magazine limitation or ban; it would suck to have a nice rifle like the 551 and not be able to get any mags.

There is the Sig 551 and there is the Sig 551-A1.

There are very few actual Sig 551s stateside and they have always been priced way north of $2000.

The A1 was Sig's response to the people who weren't satisfied with the 556 Classic and clamored for a real 551. The 551-A1 was made in the US and takes original 551 mags that rock in like AK mags but does NOT have the same proprietary barrel/bolt assembly and is of generally lesser quality.

They were sold exclusively through CDNN and priced around $1600-$1800 IIRC.

Willie, how does the bolt differ from the 551 and the 551 A 1? They sure look the same.

If it's anything like a Sig 556, which of course it is, buy it. I really like the 556.
It really is like a combination of the AR and AK. The only thing that ever really needs cleaning is the gas system. The bolt area always looks like it just washed up for supper. I don't know what to think about the red dot, as I can't see it in broad daylight. I'm surprised at how well this rifle shoots with the little flip up aperture built into the rail, which I think is a real cool little feature. You can shoot with the aperture right through the red dot without removing it.

Stubbicatt: Pretty sure you're right. I think it's the barrel+trunnion that is peculiar to the real Swiss rifles.
