Here is my new Saiga AK 47. I am not a real fan of the AK, but the price was right after Christmas shopping to get a high capacity 'Working Rifle' for various chores around camp, and other locals where protection and survival could come into play.

INCLUDED IS A STILL PHOTO AND A SHORT VIDEO OF THE SAID RIFLE AT MY LOCAL FIREARMS EMPORIUM!!!

If you don't mind me asking, how much did the rifle set you back?

You'll have fun with that Saiga. I know I have fun with mine. Check into a rear peep sight for it. Major improvement.

I put a MOJO rear sight on my Saiga. From what I've read, Kerb makes a very good sight too.

I bookmarked that sight, it looks good.

My rifle comes with two mags, both look like originals as far as I can tell...

Texas Weapons Systems make a replacement for the dust cover and rear sight that has a full length rail, and you can get a peep sight for it as well from them.

The TWS is an excellent system but since railed top covers has come up, below is my review of the AKARS which is similar (with a few differences).

I saw a Saiga at the last gun show for $375. Just looking at the parts in the pic, I'd say it would run about $575.

I converted mine in a similar fashion for $150.

Good luck finding a new unconverted Saiga for that price these days.

A little over a month ago (prior to the currrent run on firearms) I saw 7.62x39mm Saigas (over)priced at $549 and $499 at a gun show.

I was finally able to pick one up for $470 at a local gun store about two weeks ago. That's the absolute cheapest price I could find (considering that you can't find them on the internet anymore).

For about $180 (conversion kit from CSS and bullet guide kit + a few tools), I was able to do a basic AK conversion on it (pistol grip/stock, conversion to use standard AK mags, kept Saiga forearm).

Since a few want to know, I paid $749.00... Too much, but there are NO, and I mean NO, semi-autos around here... It is converted, and comes with TWO real AK mags...

I prefer the wood stocks for butt stroking the local bad guys, but I will take what I get at the moment. It is a working gun for me...

I used my SKS one time to save my bacon at a hunting camp in Colorado. We were out blackpowder hunting for ELK on the Elcompadre, when a camp down from us was acting up and keeping us up all night. I had enough and yelled down the valley to please lower the music because we were sleeping. They jumped in their trucks, more of them than us, and headed our way ... probably some TEXANS!

I told my other two buddies to get into the dark, and I grabbed my SKS (Chinese made) out of my wall tent and waited by the fire. When the two trucks showed up, I stood up and was holding my SKS in my hands. They turned around and went back to camp ... problem solved...

YEa, for the SKS...

PS>> Now i need to find some ammo...

Honestly, $749 doesn't sound too bad these days. Prior to the scare, these converted Saigas were going for $599 online (+ shipping and FFL transfer fees).

By comparision, a few weeks ago (but after the scare had started), I bought the cheapest unconverted 7.62x39mm Saiga I could find. Add in a conversion kit and tools, and a Saturday afternoon, I'm all in at just under $700. My finished rifle looks exactly like your, with a slightly nicer KVAR fixed stock, but minus the slots cut into the Saiga forearm.

So I'd say you did pretty dang good.

I would have bought it too.

That's a pretty funny story. That's why I backpack way in to hunt. There are no dip****s 5 miles back. :)

About 6 months ago, I shouldered one of the Century converted Saigas. It was one of the nicer - feeling AK's I have ever messed with. The gunmount and sight alignment just seemed to suit me well. I believe, at the time, they wanted $649 for it. Enjoy your rifle.

Apparently, the trigger group was moved forward to improve balance, per the info stuff in the link at the bottom of this post.

I am just glad to find one with all the anti-second amendment talk about. The prices will go even higher as the scare tactics, real or perceived, will make it them more scarce, thus more costly!!!

If I can, I will try and get a Springfield in the near future, I miss my Supermatch model, but a standard M14 rifle will do!!! ;)

This is a site showing my rifle, with the new slots cut in the forearm, etc...
