Sweet Shooter

Looking into the birdcage on my unloaded, highly accurate SIG M400, I notice that the Parkerizing finish is retreating from the edge of the crown as I fire it more. Unless perhaps I just never really looked close enough before. I've also thought that perhaps this was carbon buildup that's getting blown away. Either way I see the chrome finish at the muzzle and it looks like it could be finished better. Obsessive I know as the gun shoots MOA.
Is there a way to tidy it up or should I leave well alone? I've read that chrome is a difficult crown to polish up with a regular lap.
Any experience/thoughts?
