View Full Version : How do I turn M400 into a bench gun?

If I were looking for an upper for benchrest who makes a good one? Is this something I can drop onto an existing lower or are these different outlines? I understand that the benchrest uppers are thicker walled and heavier and have a bolt handle for charging. What is the best way to turn my M400 into a bench gun?

You'd probably be buying a precision type upper group; either a varminting style HBAR or a national match service rifle type (like the Rock River NM upper half).
The difference is in the barrel, handguard, and maybe the trigger. Long range precision seems to prefer a free floated barrel made to tight tolerances and a quality target trigger.

AR upper assemblies that are actually designed for benchrest... you can start here (http://6mmar.com/Benchrest_AR.html). I'd suggest the 6mmAR Turbo or 6mm HAGAR... if you're a handloader.
