Stevens Model 94C 20 guage hammer

My wife has on old Stevens single shot 20 guage that my father in law recently delivered to me with a broken hammer (thumb tang gone) and the hammer pin knocked mostly out from right to left and is very tightly wedged.

Gambling that there was nothing wrong but the broken hammer (which was already loose and out), I ordered a new hammer from Numrich which arrived yesterday.

I took the recoil pad off the buttstock so I could get to the straight slot screw which holds the stock on and the mainspring in. I am guessing that the mainspring has to be removed to install and pin in the new hammer?

Anyway, the slotted screw in the buttstock is tighter than _______ and I can't get it to budge. Anyone else dealt with a similar problem?

Any chance the bolt has reverse threads?
If you think it is rusted in, be careful spraying anything in the bolt hole that might damage the stock (dry it out so that it splits).
Be patient and wait for someone that know his stuff to help you. (I never did get the old firing pin out of my H&R 1905 that brought me to TFL nearly two years ago. It is still sitting on my work bench!):rolleyes:

Nope, no rust on the screw whatsoever.
