Received my new SCAR 17s and I am in love.

Any of you have one? Would love to hear what you think.

Here's a video overview

Need to add an optic, trying to decide

I am babysitting my brothers.

I really like the light weight and the recoil and the idea of a left side charging handle.

I don't like the really heavy trigger, really high sight line above the bore and the left side charging handle position/implementation (hits my knuckles bad every time I charge it, hit my thumb shooting off bags).

You are holding it wrong when shooting off sandbags.

You are holding it wrong when shooting off sandbags.

Yep.

That was readily apparent to me at the time.:D

I just slapped it up on a sandbag that was shakily on top of a plastic garbage can.

I was holding the sandbag to keep it from sliding off the can and my thumb got in the way.

It didn't the 2nd shot.;)

But you do have to be aware of where it is in a way you don't have to with an AR or an AK.

Yup, I hear that.

I'm hoping the design changes of the FNAC eventually make their way to the civilian SCAR 16S & 17S rifles.

Non reciprocating ch is only significant change, meh.

Lighter weight, simpler forearm design, and more iron sight options as well (in addition to the improved charging handle design).

None are big changes, but I feel all are improvements to a very good design.

Nothing that makes me want to trade what I have, but nice.

I have a Trijicon TA11E on mine and it matches perfectly. I was thinking of putting a compact vortex scope on it but the SCAR wasnt designed to be a tack driver.

The small amount of recoil is impressive.
Kind of amazing, really.
Thanks for the video, (I think).
Now, I have to go see how much they cost, dagnabbit.
Any idea what the .556 is like?

Found it.
Retails for $2500!
Ack!
There's a bunch of info on the earlier .556 on the web.
It looks like there's just about no recoil for it.
Some think it's due to the muzzle brake, others that it's at least partly due to the piston design.
Either way, it's a soft shooter, fur sure.

The recoil reduction is the muzzle brake. Remove it and it actually recoils a little bit more than an AR.

That PWS brake is also EXTREMELY LOUD!

When we were sighting in my brother's SCAR 16 for the first time. Everyone was standing right next to me as I was shooting. After the 1st shot, they all stepped several steps behind me into the woods.

It will rattle your teeth.

My brother switched out the PWS brake for an AAC Blackout and it is MUCH quieter. Although, it does make a PINGING noise when you fire it.

We are talking about a SCAR 17S, not a 16.

The SCAR 17S is chambered in 7.62, not the mouse gun's 5.56.

You've been HiJacked!
Well, only a little bit.
But you started it, by talking about the low recoil.
So, we just carried it a bit further by talking about how it's done.
Since the 16 and 17 are the same design, where's the harm?
Didn't you say that it was due to the short piston design, with no mention of the brake?
If the recoil reduction is from the muzzle brake, then any gun can be modified that way, and there's really no need to empty the bank account to achieve it.

Nice rifle, love that recoil (lack of it).

I have been wanting to buy one, but to me the 308 is a long range bullet. So I'm holding off until they release the LR version (20" barrel).

Then only thing I will add to it (besides a scope and sling) is NP3 coating like my POF 308 has.

Wow, the SCAR really is the bees knees.

re: optics... are you wanting a dot, or scope, what price range, at what distances to you plan to shoot?

Burris 201909 would be my choice, if I owned that rifle:

- I think Burris makes a quality product that is on par with the rifle
- made in USA
- clean, useful multi-range reticle
- hey, it's a .308 - might as well have an optic that allows you to stretch it out a bit

In addition to this scope, take the factory peeps off and install Dueck 45 degree peeps.

I'm leaning *pretty* strongly toward the ELCAN 1-4X.

I know, I know. It's pricey, but hey....it's awesome.

~Hadn't heard of it until just now. Wow - that is an awesome sight, I like the reticle. If you have the salad - go for it and enjoy

Since the 1x-4x interests you, have you looked at the Leupold HAMR with the Deltapoint? I think it would be a neat setup with fixed 4x and one could mount the 1x Deltapoint on top or get a 45 degree mount.

1-4 for a .308????? You guys are thinking too small. On my POF 308 I have a 5-30 x 50mm. I assume that you spent around $2,600 for that rifle. As a general rule I spend at least as much on my optics. Like we used to sy in the Army "If you can see it, you can hit it. If you can hit it , you can kill it."

Can't hit it, if you can't see it.

Eppie - that is a horrible general rule, now I have to go and spend more money on a scope for my 308...thinking accupoint 3-9x40-ish

Eppie, you'll be happy to know I bought a Nightforce 5.5-22 today for my SCAR 17.
