As in 5.56, is getting really expense in San Antonio. Bottom price @ 90 cents per round, the price goes up from there. There were a lot of bare places on the shelves too.

Lake City surplus is under $400 for 1000rds at most online dealers.

6.99/20. Tons of academy sports in SA. How about BPS at the Rim?

holy moly! Where are you buying rounds??
It might be worth the trip to Houston for you where my buddy is getting them for $7 a box.
$7.99 a box in NC(+/- $1)! been holding steady for a few years now.
about that same as at the gun show

Academy advertised for about $6.69(?) a box but the self was bare. All the lower priced stuff was gone. I ordered a couple of hundred rounds this afternoon.

Nowadays, if I buy I buy in bulk. Anything more than 35 cents a round is expensive.
I reload and per round cost that route is about 15 cents (for 55 gr fmj) plus my time of peace and quiet. Premium reload ammo cost a few cents more for the bullet but still way cheaper.

Unfortunately, I am prohibited via OPSEC and common sense from posting my location.

At those prices in your area it maybe time to think about reloading.

I buy bulk / online for all my personal ammo.
At that price, I can't imagine who wouldn't.. but I see empty shelves?!

Bought my last case the end of July and it was .30 a round for LC M193 shipped to my door.

.223 components are pretty much gone on the south side of San Antonio. I hope I've got enough to make it through the post-election riots.

It has definitely gone up lately, but it is hardly as dear as $0.90/round for regular 55gr XM193-ish stuff. Maybe if you're buying polymer tipped Hornady V-Max with moly coated bullets it's that much, but for the case loads of kinda militaryish FMJ, it's way less.
A few months back it was under $0.30/round before shipping in 1000 round cases. Now it's somewhere between $0.30 and $0.35/round, and that's without having to look too hard. Of course, sometimes it sells out for a little while, but that's just how things are right now.
