Which would you choose? This would be a range queen, I'd most likely be reaching out to 300 maybe 500 at absolute maximum yards with this rifle shooting at steel gongs.

In responding to the two listed, I have shot both and I prefered the Scout. JMHO ... ;)

If its a range queen, what's wrong with the standard rifle? The 22" barrel gets the most from the .308 round, compared to the shorter ones, muzzle blast is less, and you have a longer open sight radius.

The advantage to the shorter barreled guns in when you are getting in and out of cramped spaces. The drawback is the muzzle is that much closer to your face, and some find the blast to be ...distracting.;)

@44AMP

Aesthetics really, I like the look of the Scout and SOCOM more for whatever reason.

Scout. The SOCOM has a thick front sight post that deters me. My scout is not as long as the standard and not as short as the SOCOM - it is right in between

Unless you plan to upgrade the SOCOM with SEI's SOCOM muzzle device kit you should get the Scout.

I own both and enjoy them equally. The Scout is my 300 yard hunter and serious shooter. The SOCOM is my red dotted 25 round mag off hand plinking fun gun in a folding stock. They both handle better than my 22" standard. If i were to narrow to one choice it would be a Scout with a Smith Enterprise gas lock front sight using a direct connect Vortex muzzle brake. That combo looks awesome, highly effective braking and it's only an inch longer than the factory SOCOM.
