I'm hoping someone can give me some advice on solving a scope vs target problem. New LongTrac BAR Oil Finish in .300 Win Mag. At first I had my old (favorite) Nikon 4.5-14 X 44mm on it but even after changing from medium to "high" Leupold mounts and rings, I still ran out of elevation. I have a good friend who was at the range with me, and is a retired gunsmith. He is telling me that the mounts and rings are correctly installed. I have now changed up to the 4-12 x 40mm Leupold LR with BDC. I have not been to the range with it yet but I'm hoping that someone can tell me there's possibly something I missed since this is the first .300 Win Mag I've ever owned or shot. I don't consider the recoil excessive personally, but the recoil could possibly be effecting the scope/mounts/rings? Since I've changed to a new scope, I may have to switch back to medium height mounts.... ?

Did you "re-center" the scope before mounting it? You should have the crosshairs in the middle of the scope this way you have equal clicks up/down and left/right.

Also, a relatively inexpensive cure would be to look at Burris Signature Rings with Off-set inserts. (They look mighty good too). Just don't short change yourself my sticking beer cans and junk under your bases. There's a right way to do things, and ways that will leave you wishing you would have done it the right way.
