View Full Version : Thinking about buying S&W MP AR15 any advice?
July 23, 2012, 12:41 PM
I am thinking about buying a S&W MP AR15 223/5.56 and wanted to know if it is a good reliable gun that will last a long time? I plan on using it mostly for target shooting and varmint hunting. I figure for the price I can't go wrong. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Advice??? Buy one!! They are great rifles. I've had mine for 5 years, and in all that time, through thousands of round, I have had only one double feed. No other malfunctions or issues of any kind. Solid, dependable gun from a great company.
Are they top-tier AR's like a Noveske, LMT, or PWS? no, but they are darn close.

They're great guns; you can buy one with confidence that it'll be durable and reliable.

I have the Sport. 2800 reloads, two stoppages due to rounds not sized properly. Highly recommended. The dust cover and forward assist aren't needed for range use.
Really the only thing you'll want to get right away is an insulated foregrip. The stock one is just plastic and gets hot rather quickly. I found one from a Colt for $12 at a gun show.

Well I went ahead and bought one with open sights (magpul flip style) and quad rail. I am thinking about putting on a scope any suggestions

For a scope, nikon has the m223 and p223 models. Made for the .223 ballistics.
Good luck and safe shooting.

I have a sw mp15x. It's been a great shooter and I've had no issues. I have a Leupold Mark AR scope which is also great.

So you got the regular M&P? The Sport doesn't have a quad rail.

I own three AR's, a DDV4, CMMG, and an M&P 15. The S&W is my "go to" gun for just plain fun and reliability..
