I have Daniel Defense and BCM lightweight midlengths and can highly recommend them. No first hand knowledge of the Barrett REC7.

I have a Barrett REC7. Great rifle if you want a piston design. Here's a link to a discussion on another forum - AR15 (http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_126/579283_Barrett_Rec_7.html) - discussion is all about the REC7 and includes some photos of the piston system.

Very happy with my Rec 7. Shoots everything I feed it and remains very clean.

I would go with the Rec 7. Barrett's reputation and quality are superior to DD.

heard a story once, shortly after california had banned the .50BMG for no apparent reason, barrett refused to sell and service 50 caliber rifles to the california police forces.. they turned down a fairly large amount of money purely on the principal of it... because of that theyve earned more respect from me than most businesses out there as it shows they care more about their customers and values, so id go with the rec-7

though im not sure you can base a decision on that, but i would give them a chance if i was going to purchase an ar15
