I ordered a new one of these, and the finish on the barrel and receiver was bead blasted. I sent it back. I've been trying to locate one that is like the ones pictured on savages website. The only things bead blasted on those are the bolt, trigger guard and other small casted trim pieces. The barrel and receiver are more of a typical stainless finish. I'm in California 100mi from SF. I'm open to any legal way of obtaining one. Its just a matter of finding one. I believe the factory started bead blasting the entire gun in beggining of 2012. If anyone sees a 18470 in some gun shop somewhere, I'd appreciate a private message.

I want find this .308. Preferably new as possible. I just as a last resort may accept this in 223 w/ a 9 twist. Or a bctss 223 in a 9, but savages new finish reminds me of painting my bmx bicycle silver in jr high. I'm thinking of going to the 2012 Reno Gun Show at hot august nights to search, however thats 4 hour drive.

Ok Idiot here. I have both, 223 and 308 in FVSS. Both are stainless steel. I guess I don't know what you mean by bead blasted. My barrels are shinny as can be. Clue me in..

So you want a polished finished on the stainless?
I'm not aware of many, if any, rifle mfgs that make a stainless barrel with a polished finish. Most, if not all, are going to be bead blasted.

You could shine it up yourself quite easily if you wanted...

I just bought a 12 BVSS and noticed the same thing about the finish. It almost looks like a porous type finish. I have an accustock stainless model from 09 that is satin and looks great. I prefer the satin finish but the 12 bvss shoots so well I don't care as much as I did on my initial impression.
