View Full Version : More community feedback, we need a rifle designation!

TITAN308
June 15, 2012, 09:00 AM
No acronym required - simply looking to finally designate a "name" for our rifle setup.

Project Titan was just a project name, not any sort of official designation - that and a current manufacturer has a rifle stamped as "TITAN" and being a rather small company, we would rather not get steamrolled in court.

Looking for suggestions on a name that embodies large, heavy, exaggerated, over-sized, unique, etc etc.

Running this on a few forums and after a few days, I can take the suggestions and create a poll. We've always tried to keep the community involved on things like this, instead of like more companies who have zippered lips on anything new.

So, anyone have any suggestions? Sarcasm and jokes are par for the course, but keep it clean. Of course only serious answers stand a chance.

I will throw one of our own ideas into the ring for scrutiny,

We were thinking 'Dreadnought' (or its variation 'Dreadnaught').

dread·nought
noun /ˈdredˌnôt/
dreadnoughts, plural

A type of battleship introduced in the early 20th century, larger and faster than its predecessors and equipped entirely with large-caliber guns.

Mjölnir.

(Thor's hammer)

I like it. I wonder if just "Thor" would be simpler and clearer. The Germans named their gigantic rail-mounted cannon "Thor" but I doubt that they will sue you for using the name. :D

Since it started as Project Titan, maybe you should stick with the Greek theme. Perhaps name it after a Greek hero like Theseus or Hecules? Maybe a bit more general, like "The Spartan."

Someone on another website offered up 'Leviathan' - which is like a big whale - put that one down as a "finalist"

For a land-based alternative to Leviathan, you could go with Behemoth...(or Ziz for air, but no one's heard of that one)

Behemoth - has a nice ring too it, will add that to the poll.

Titanic - Hey wait a minute.... are you saying we are a sinking ship?!;)

Rhino - There is actually a product for shotguns that uses this name. Someone else mentioned this on another forum, while I do like it - it gets the auto boot due to other products in the same market (firearms) already using it. We are all about unique!

Chronos - I think we both agree this is a way over-used name.

We actually have a disclaimer that reads:

*Warning*

While our weapon system may be suitable for pregnant women, grandma, and little Timmey who is in 1st grade, we suggest weak girly men who cannot handle a little extra wait to avoid at all cost. Disregarding this warning may result in growth of chest hair and possibly a beard. In the most worst of cases bio material called muscles may occur. Please use responsibly.

Of course the pregnant women part would never make it to actual public sales, but the rest is about accurate. After a while we kind of got tired of hearing the same old "this rifle is to heavy to be useful" mantra.

Beat me to it.

While our weapon system may be suitable for pregnant women, grandma, and little Timmey [Timmy] who is in 1st grade, we suggest weak girly men who cannot handle a little extra wait [weight] to avoid at all cost. Disregarding this warning may result in growth of chest hair and possibly a beard. In the most (remove) worst of cases bio material called muscles may occur. Please use responsibly.

If that was a joke, then I smiled a little. If not, and you are serious about printing that, then proofread before you print. I'm sure some English major on here could refine it more, but those are some things I caught. Please don't take offense, just trying to help ;)

Ricky so close!

The King James Version reads as:

Then Jonathan gave his artillery to his lad and said to him, "Go, bring {them} to the city."

Different versions use weapons, bow and arrows, arms, etc etc

We thought the KJV was the most fitting for our monster. :p
