I have this thing that appears, for all intents and purposes, to be a Mauser receiver. Or, a Mauser style, anyway. It has either chinese or japanese characters on the front ring. No crest, just letters. Anyone know what this thing is?

Japanese Arisaka receiver.

Awful, horrible, murky pictures.

Not enough information to tell if that is a Japanese training rifle receiver. If it is, it is cast iron and is unsafe to fire with real bullets.

Definitely Japanese, the symbol in the first pic identifies it as Nagoya arsenal. It looks like there may be a serial number by the arsenal mark, but I can 't tell. We need more and clear pics of the markings, including those on the front ring. If your camera has a macro mode, use it! It usually has a flower symbol.

Type-99 7.7 receiver. Not a Trainer, had a couple of them in different styles.
