After two years of wanting an AR, I finally picked one up last week. I went with a Tachtical Weapons Solutions TWS-15. A 5.56 with 1 in 7 twist, lifetime warranty, and somewhat local. Awesome handling weapon. I'm a very happy camper. Thanks to all who answered all my questions. Pics will be up soon. :D

I bought myself one last year, and I never dreamed I'd like shooting it so much. Congratulations

I had always like older hunting guns. I think they have a lot of personality. The wood grain and blue steel going together like peanut butter and jelly. But, I do love my new AR and I'm happy I gave in. I've heard that these are addictive, I'm already buying more mags and optics. I need more ammo, lots more ammo.

What sites have the best deals on ammo? I know that bulk = savings, Id rather not shoot steel.

Congrats on your new rifle.
But you forgot one thing...
Come on man, "where are the pics?"

Walmart has had the best deal on ammo so far... $149 for a 420 round can of 62 grain. I'm gonna go pick up 2 cans next payday if they're still there.

Regarding ammo, sometimes buying local will get you the best deal as you do not have to pay shipping.

When buying online, I've found that www.sgammo.com tends to have the best prices. There's also www.freedommunitions.com. They manufacture their own ammo (both new and once fired brass); but I haven't had experience with them yet.

***??? I can't find a Walmart in this area of the state that sells bulk .223... Not fair!

Oh wait that doesn't really matter I load my own ammo but still why is it I don't have Walmarts near me that sell firearms and/or bulk ammo other than .22lr?

It suprised me. It wasn't in the ammo section, it was with the scopes and knives in the glass counter case. I had to do a double take!! And even when loading your own, you still need brass. That 420 can is lake city, not wolf or brown bear.

What is your thoughts on NcStar for cheap optics? I bought a 2X7 scope with illuminated crosshairs. I like it and it seems to hold zero nice. And 5 Magpul 30 round mags.

The scope is a NcStar pic with the mags. Reflex sight is from ATM, it came on my S&W 15-22. I'm looking in to an Osprey tactical scope for out to 250 yards or so.

I avoid NCstar like the plague. They manufacturer cheap air soft quality gear in near slave labor conditions in a country that hates our fundamental principles and way of life.

Don't top the symbol of the American soldier with cheap Chinese crap. ;)

Good point Sailskidrive, I never thought of it like that. I did buy one already, I'll save and research to get something more appropriate.

I hate to give folks a hard time about it but often the same individuals who are attracted to the low cost Chinese imports are the same folks who fit in the socio-economic group most affected by American manufacturing jobs moving overseas.

We just spent $1100 on a crib for the munchkin on the way. Two reasons why: first, we know it is made in North Carolina by Americans who need jobs; two, we know it doesn't have any toxic finishes and from an evironmental standpoint is not "disposable".

I know some people can't afford to drop $500+ on an optic, but I believe there are little decisions we make everyday that can help even the playing field for middle America.

"America's Rifle" deserves American Pride! :D

I won't derail this thread any more.
