I have a Browning A-5 trying figure out manufacture date.
Receiver reads 74V 29722. Help! Thanks!

the "V" indicates a Magnum reciever.
Go to the browning website, under the "parts / service" there is a "date your Browning, to confirm.
Recommend you get new friction bronzes, steel rings, and recoil; spring to insure good cyc;ing and reduced recoil.
Also you can download a manual for it from the website.

ok. It looked to me like from the web site the V meant 1975. I didn't read
anywhere that the V meant Magnum.

From my reference book "Browning, Dates of Manufacture, 1824 to Present" First Edition, copyright 1988 (no ISBN).
74VXXXXX breaks down as follows:
Date code, first two digits indicate 1974 manufacture
V designates 12 ga. Magnum
XXXXX is the serial number
