According to "Proofhouse.com" that would be 1908.

Cajun -

You may have seen the listing for 18xxx. According to my copy of Colt - An American Legend, which contains complete serial number tables in an appendix, serial # 180xxx would have been about 1928 for the "Police Positive .38" and 1919 for the "Police Positive Special". Presumably the OP has one of the former.

Those dates agree with what's at proofhouse.com.

You're right. That's what I get for looking it up before that first cup O' Joe. :o

My source shows Serial Numbers 162,ooo thru 189,999 as being mfd. in 1919.
If there is confusion regarding Model, Police Positive .38 has a 1 1/4 Inch Cylinder---Police Positive "Special" .38 has 1 5/8 inch Cylinder.

A .38 Police Positive Special was made in .38 Special. Since that cartridge had been developed by S&W, Colt's markings were deliberately ambiguous, part of their refusal to use the terms ".38 Special" or ".38 S&W Special".
