I have a friend who is trying to find out what kind of revolver this person might sell to him. I saw it today and it is a Smith and Wesson old style looking revolver. It says "S&W DA 45" on the side of the barrel. The patents are pending from 1901, 1906, 1909. Serial number 180741. I believe it is chambered for .45 long colt. It looks like an old military or police revolver. Any help you guys and gals can give me on what it actually is and its range of worth, that would be great. Thanks a millon.

El Rojo, if your Smith & Wesson looks like this:

Then you have a .45 Hand Ejector Model of 1917. Your serial number would indicate it was made around 1937 or 1938. These were chambered in .45 Auto Rim or .45 ACP. You can visit http://www.wwa.com/~dvelleux/s1917rev.htm for more information on your S&W revolver. Hope this helps!

That looks like the one. Thanks a lot Steve. I appreciate it. You wouldn't happen to know the ballpark range on a price for one of these in say good condition would you?

In excellent condition it could be worth about $600-$800 and about $475-$600 in very good condition. Hope this helps!
