Is the information I see on the web correct in that with the 580 model much of the accuracy problem has been cured?

Need a truck gun for shooting at the to numerious coyotes we have on a piece of timberland here in FL.

Yes, the new 580 series with the heavier tapered barrels are more accurate then the older pencil barreled models. Coyotes out to 200 yards should be no problem.

Yup, they are far more consistent out of the box. A barrel strut will improve things further. The open sights are much better too.

Just bought a new Target Mini-14 stainless with a 580 ######. Very accurate.

Mine consistently gets sub 2 inch groups at 100 yards with 55 grain factory ammo shooting off of a bi-pod; 580 series Ranch Rifle.

The limitation now, on my particular rifle, is the trigger. I am certain that once I get a good trigger job, my groups will continue to shrink a bit more.

I am currently researching exactly where to have this work done.

Personally I don't see anything wrong with the trigger as is, though mine isn't the match version.

Hard to blame Ruger for the heavy triggers with all the lawyers around. That was the standard until Savage came out with the Accu-Trigger.

Yup, I have the TACTICAL with the flash hider and the norm is between 1 and 2 inches at 100 yds with carp ammo. An accustrut did not help at all. I also have 3 older minis and the accustrut helped each and every one of those. The new bbls are much heavier from the gas block forward. No need for a strut really. CDNN has them for $579.99 right now. A good deal iffin you ask me. Hoffmans has 20 round mags for $19.99 and 30 rounders for $29.99. Get em while you can. -Goodspeed

I average between 1-1.5'' groups at 100yrds. with my 580 series. All I have done was a trigger job and a strut. It shot around 2'' before. Mine is the 580 series with the skinny barrel thats why I added the strut. Tightened up the accuracy and eliminated shot stringing.
