So I went to look at this shotgun yesterday, came home looked it up online, didn't see many pictures of one like mine so I went back and bought it. Is it rare?
Stamped on barrel:

-MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. WINCHESTER PROOF STAINLESS STEEL-
SERIAL # - L1323039

I'm looking at 14 of the exact same thing right now. But I'm also standing in a sheriffs department. I wouldn't think they are worth much. But yours looks to be in really great shape.

There's no way to determine the condition of your gun from the pics. It's probably a police turn-in: did it age out or was it worn out? One down side of stainless guns is a dealer can easily make a group of them look like new with quick re-blast.

In my area - I don't see a lot of them - but they aren't rare either ....and pricing on them is around $ 75 - $ 125 / in very good condition maybe $ 200 tops..
but the finish on your gun ....doesn't have much patina on it ...and that isn't typical based on what I've seen. I'm wondering if someone polished it / or if its just the photo...
You didn't say what you paid for it ??

I paid $275 for it. I have seen two other people on the web asking $600 for theirs.
The finish on the gun isnt in great shape, the flash minimized it because its so bright. So i would guess its original.

Wow, that's way more than what I see them selling for in my area ....so I don't know what to tell you .....
But if you like the gun ..it doesn't matter..

1200s were never meant to be expensive, not built as tough as the 12s and old 96s. The 1300s were made a little better but I think the 870 in a wingmaster may be the best bet for older used shotguns and the marine model is a keeper.

See if this guy wants another one for the bargain price of only $1000, so he can resell it...

Seems some people out there are really impressed with them, anyway.

The ask doesn't mean much, the bid on the other hand does.

Not necessarily. Ever hear of a 'shill'?

Start up bid doesn't mean anything. What it sells for is a decent indicator but then some people get caught up in auctions and pay more than what something is worth.
