Hey guys, bear with me on this description. I'm at work and there is an internet filter so I can't get to an exploded diagram to view a parts list (Although this site is not blocked, for some reason). So my part names are going to be ...non-technical:(

So I shot a coyote yesterday morning and noticed when I racked another round that it wouldn't latch shut. After unloading and inspecting it wouldn't latch without a shell either, and also it wouldn't fire. The trigger felt soft like when you have fired but haven't racked another shell and the trigger isn't re-set.

Nothing appeared to be obstructing anything and the extractor looked fine so I kept trying. I found that the problem is that the little do-hickey that you press to release the slide wasn't springing back when I ran the slide up. BUT, if I hold the slide up and manually pull the do-hickey out it will latch and fire.

So my question is:
Does this sound like a common problem? Anybody else had this happen and how did you fix it? I'm hoping that nothing is broken and that a little oil down in there will fix it, or maybe I can figure out how to clean down in there.

It sure sounds to me like a drop of oil is in order. It sounds like its just sticking. If you don't clean/oil it regularly it highly recommend you do that. I dont believe that it is "broken" because it works when you fiddle with it.

The two pins that run through the reciever can be easily pushed out with a punch and hand pressure.
Remove pins and pull downward on trigger assembly, inspect for broken spring that holds bolt release button in place. Clean bolt, receiver and trigger assembly with spray cleaner and tooth brush. re assemble and function check.
Go to Brownell's for exploded views and replacement parts.

That's what I'm thinking too.

Thanks for the tip. I can't view brownell's at work, but I'll look when I get home.

Success!

I oiled the do-hickey first thing upon arriving at home and that didn't seem to help. I was gonna take it apart anyway so I did. It didn't seem overly dirty but it must have been. I took some solvent and a brush to it, dried and re-oiled it. The moving parts all seemed to be in order so I plugged the trigger assembly back in and she's running like new again. Thanks for the advice guys:cool:
